Every Now And Then
Every Now And Then
While talking to a good friend and awesome DJ (Spin) I realized there is not that big of a difference in the music generation of today and yesteryear. I’ve been on a search for instrumentals by some of the greatest late artists ranging from Teena Marie to Minnie Ripperton without much success. A few days prior to that I was speaking with Philly’s PSP (Philly Support Philly) founder Dj Nophrillz an awesome DJ as well, and he was able to squeeze out a few instrumentals for me (PSP!!) but explained that there are really no instrumentals for R&B back in the day.
I’ve concluded that the main reason for that is because back in the day, artists had bands. There were no “instrumentals” to go get and all that. You found a jam session and got to singing! There was no such thing as a website and all this stuff we got going on so, there were bands…everywhere. Now days we have, beatmakers and producers …. everywhere. If you wanted to be “cool” back then, you needed a guitar, drumset or bass, some kind of instrument. Today it’s as simple as having some sort of beatmaking program and a computer.
By nature we are all musical creatures it’s just that the times have changed and what was necessary before is not anymore. Unfortunately the art of music has been lost….that’s another story.
