Michael Jackson's "Michael" Track-By-Track

Before his untimely death in June 2009, Michael Jackson had been formulating a new batch of material that would have served as the follow-up to 2001's "Invincible." Although Jackson would sadly never see the release of this group of songs, an all-star team of producers and collaborators was assembled to complete the King Of Pop's vision and finish "Michael," Jackson's first posthumous album.

Major label artists & promotions

2010 was supposed to be a lot of people's "year". At the beginning of every year, artists scream n shout from the rooftops about what they are going to be,do and drop etc. However for the majority of artists,  that is the most promoting they do all year. They do some shows (open mic's) drop few project's (mixtapes) and by June they're re constructing the plan to "blow up" that year. That's the indie's.

The majors have not been all that either! There has been many albums that dropped this year that people were NOT aware of. To start at the end of this year, Nelly. He went on a twitter rant about his sales and how the label only shipped out 250,000 and how the label and the artist should be a partnership. Well I wonder, are the signed artists not allowed to have a promo team of their own? Can they not have a street team that goes out and make sure the fans know that there is an album coming? Albums are set to release on specific and strategic dates. There is enough time to gather up a few loyal fans in every state and give them an assignment. "Spread The Word!" They have fan sites. Some of the signed artists have several fansites. Why not go to the fansites and start the movement with the already waiting fans? The only time we hear from a lot of the major artist is when they're disappointed in sales or their contract etc. Spend more time interacting wioth the people who actually buy your records and maybe sales will be consistant. That and good music, can't forget about the music.

So if you're an indie artist, your best bet is to get real good at promoting your music becuase the majors will not be breaking their necks for you if you signed.

As a result, the 53rd Annual GRAMMY Awards will feature 108 out of 109 categories.

GRAMMY ballots for the final round of voting will be mailed on Dec. 15 to the voting members of The Recording Academy. They are due back to the accounting firm of Deloitte by Jan. 12, 2011, when they will be tabulated and the results kept secret until the GRAMMY telecast.

The 53rd Annual GRAMMY Awards are produced by John Cossette Productions and AEG Ehrlich Ventures for The Recording Academy. Ken Ehrlich and John Cossette are executive producers, and Louis J. Horvitz is director.

The 53rd Annual GRAMMY Awards will be held on "GRAMMY Sunday," Feb. 13, 2011, at Staples Center in Los Angeles and once again will be broadcast live in high-definition TV and 5.1 surround sound on CBS from 8–11:30 p.m. (ET/PT). Do You Know Who You're Talking To?

Know Who You’re Talking To

Sooooo, I’m in networking mode again. I took a break to actually DO some of the things I thought about and planned. One of the things I’ve learned over the years is that people have ideas, talk about them and then talk about them some more. You check back with them (sometimes years later) and they’re still talking about the same ideas. I refuse to be one of those people. I did some stuff.

Now, I’m running into this thing issue where people are not taking the time out to know who they’re talking to. They are so self absorbed that they never research anyone beforehand. Let’s say you are at a get together and you’re talking to someone, you discover you have the same ideas and/or goals and you exchange business cards. You call the person the next day to set up a time when you can meet and talk a little more. You meet them and as you begin to talk you realize that the person is not who you thought they were and now you want out. This happens usually because there was a missed step. Before the phone call the next day there should have been a search. On the business card is their website, business name etc. You never looked them up. On the other hand, let’s say you have been doing pretty well at selling your scented candles and you were looking to expand your network. You meet someone at a function, exchange cards and you go home. The next day you jump online and research the person’s website and online presence etc. Everything looks good. You give them a call and set up a meeting. Well, they seemed professional enough and you assumed they checked you out as well. You meet and the conversation takes weird turn that lets you know, they don’t know who you are. “How are you going to get people to buy your product if no one knows who you are?” Nooooo…..YOU don’t know who I am.

I have never met up with someone who has given me a business card and I didn’t check it out FIRST. It is something you learn in high school or in job search workshops. It’s one of the basic steps in building your company. Research the company, client, or potential investor BEFORE you meet with them. Just because you have made it to a certain point in your career does not mean that no one is above you. You still have to do your research.

Nicki Minaj's Pink Friday album was leaked

Just curious to know what does the leaker/hacker/hater get out of further ruining the chances of up and coming artists chances of being signed. The more they leak these entire projects, the more money the labels lose, the less money they have for promoting any artist they may sign in the future. The less money for promotions and artist branding, the harder unsigned artists have to work to get to a signable status. It is already an enormous amount of things needed to get noticed by major labels (not that it's the ultimate goal) but when they leak these albums, it hurts the chances of someone's dreams becoming a reality.

IT NEEDS TO STOP!
